“Where is the best place to see sunrise and sunset in Bagan?” and “Where are the secret temples you can still climb?” — the questions EVERYONE is asking, and no one seems to have the same answers to, until now!

The ultimate Bagan dream is to either: 1. Experience Bagan sunrise from the aerial heights of a hot air balloon, or 2. Watch the balloons pass over while sitting at the top of a temple. We aimed for the latter (budget friendly) but had the HARDEST time trying to find temples to climb in Bagan. As the country aims to protect the integrity of the temples, climbing has been banned, with a few exceptions. The woman we rented our e-bikes from kindly directed us to a secret temple, literally called the “Secret Temple” near Dhammayangyi — we were even able to find “Secret Temple” on Google Maps!

For a change of scenery, we opted to enjoy the sunset from one of the two man-made hills that have been created for tourists. A crowded sunset indeed, but beautiful nonetheless.
