Details about 108 Shiv Mandir Nababhat

108 Shiv Mandir, Bardhaman Overview

Perhaps the most unique and enticing structure in all of Bardhaman, the reason it's known as 108 Shiv Temple is because there literally are 108 small temples contracted side by side in a beautiful vertical pattern.

The temples are located in Nawabhat which was once famous for the battles of the Pathans and Mughals. The best and the most crowded time to see these temples is during Shivratri when the entire place is lit up with lights and decorations.

Kankaleswari Kali Mandir

Kankeleshwari Kalibari, Bardhaman Overview

This amazingly intricate structure of Goddess Kali is located in Brishnu Mandir in Kanchan Nagar. The goddess Chamunda is depicted through this sculpture.

Made from precious stones and black rocks, the structure is so finely detailed that even the veins running through her many hands look real. The sculpture is also believed to be a symbol of the continuity of life as its made from the stones found on Damoder riverbed after the devastating floods of 1923.

Mota Shiv mandir

This huge shivling, commonly known as "Mota Shib" or "Mota Baba" was probably built in the twelfth century. The height of the linga and its circumference is unrivaled in West Bengal. The circumference of the ‘Gouripatta’ is 18 feet. The statue was discovered while digging the earth in 1973 AD (Bangla,25th Shravana, 1379) at Bikharibagan, Alamganj (at the south-west of Rajbati). Not only during Shivaratri but throughout the year thousands of people come here to pay their homage to Lord Shiv.

Sarvamangala Devi temple

Sarbamangala Temple was built by Maharaja Kirtichand in the year 1702, situated at D.N. Sarkar Road, Burdwan. The idol of Mata Sarbamangala is around 1000 years old. It is the first NABARATNA temple in the undivided Bengal.

Bijoy Toron
On the occasion of coronation of Sri Bijoy Chand Mahatab, Maharaja of Bardhaman built this gigantic gate at the crossing of GT Road and BC Road, in the year 1903. The visit of the then Viceroy of India Lord Curzon in 1904 resulted in the name of the structure as “Curzon Gate”. In post Independence era, it was renamed as “Bijoy Toron”.
