The #portrait and the likeness of the subject

Surely a few minutes tutorial can't explain everything but ...
I would like to focus on some passages that are often ignored.

When we make a portrait it is because we want to represent a specific individual.
Our dream is that he was immediately recognizable and we would like only him to be recognized in the portrait and that no one else is confused.
The top, needless to say, we would like to reproduce his personality as well.

To make a good #portrait
Let's see what to do before leaving with all the good intentions in the world, even before sharpening the # pencil, before preparing the paper first ... before making the # chiaroscuro ... even before sitting down or putting the canvas in front of you ...
The initial operation that absolutely cannot be missed is:
define the structure of the subject you are portraying and immediately find the key elements that define the face. His face! Not just any face ... but just what you are trying to portray on paper.

The fact that I recognized Muhammad Ali without Fabio (the author of the drawing) having told me, surely means that a vague similarity in the drawing has been caught .... but there were some initial errors of evaluation that led him a bit astray, just enough not to make the similarity clear.

In this drawing we perceive that we started to draw without building a sort of guideline scheme that would allow us to identify the salient features and the right proportions of the portrait face and then let's see together how to start!
