This time, We would like to introduce Japanese diesel cars such as the Kiha 40, which spends a "second life" far away in Myanmar. This video was shot last summer, so We wanted you to watch it slowly at home, so the riding scene was the minimum editing.Since it is a 42-minute video, we have created a table of contents and listed it at the top of the summary column. We hope you will use it.

[Japanese diesel car running in Myanmar]

With the timetable revision in March 2020, the Kiha 40 series in the Niigata area was replaced with the new type GV-E400, and many of them lost their operations and were scrapped.
From March onward, these vehicles were sequentially transported to Kuroyama Station on the Hakushin Line to Fujiyose Station on the Niigata East Port Line and delivered to Niigata East Port. A total of 21 KIHA40 trains, which have been transported in four times, will be transported to Myanmar by ship in the future, and the "second life" will begin.

At the Myanmar Railways, diesel cars retired in Japan since 2003 have been imported and are active all over the country, including the Yangon Circular Railway. The JR East Japan Kiha 40 Series, JR Tokai Kiha 40 Series, and Kiha 11 that we introduce this time have been introduced since 2015 and are active in the Yangon Circular Railway.

From 2015 to 2016, JR Tokai retired the KIHA40 series, KIHA11, due to the transfer of vehicles by electrification of the Taketoyo line and the introduction of KIHA25.These vehicles were sent to Myanmar one after another and are now playing an active role as the main vehicle around the Yangon Circular Railway. For Kiha 11, some vehicles have been transferred to Hitachinaka Seaside Railway in Ibaraki Prefecture.(All vehicles belonging to the Tokai Transport Service Company are transferred to Hitachinaka Seaside Railway)The 300s are excluded from the target of scrapped vehicles and are still active mainly on the Meisho Line.

JR East's Kiha 40 series retired due to surplus vehicles, mainly non-cooled vehicles, caused by the wide-area transfer of railcars following the opening of the Senseki-Tōhoku Line in 2015.Similar to Tokai's vehicles, these vehicles are also being transported to Myanmar one after another and are playing an active role on the Yangon Circular Railway.

These vehicles arriving in Myanmar have been modified to meet the specifications of Myanma Railways. Since there are many overpasses that are low in height on the Myanma Railways and the car-gauge is low , the ventilator and air conditioner have been removed accordingly, and it is in a neat roof. Also, for hygiene purposes, the moquette is removed from the seat, and in recent years there has been a change to a bench seat, so the box seats of the Japanese times have become valuable.

We got on the Yangon Circular Railway this time. The fare on the Yangon Circular Railway is 200 kyat, which is about JPY 15 for Japanese Yen.When We visited, there was a large-scale renovation work for the purpose of increasing the speed of the loop network, some sections were out of service, and there was no operation in the loop.
The appearance of the vehicle that opens the door and runs at a slow speed on the streets of Southeast Asia is suitable for spending their remaining lives, and made me feel like "I want you to continue working for a long time".

In this video, we also introduce the vehicle numbers of the Japanese era. It is more than 40 vehicles are introduced, so We hope you can look for the vehicles of the memories that will lead the "second life" and see them.
