Exactly 40 years ago, the Rally Schloss Heidelberg received international attention due to the surprising participation of Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer for a test run in the new Audi Sport Quattro in 1984. The Rally Schloss Heidelberg even became a round of the German Championship the year later. Röhrl and Geistdörfer took the first victory for the new Sport Quattro. The foundation stone for today's ADAC Heidelberg Historic was laid. To mark this special anniversary, rally legend Walter Röhrl competed in this year's ADAC Heidelberg Historic – in his Audi Sport Quattro from back then.

1.) Audi Sport Quattro S1, Group B [Original]
The car shown here was used in January 1985 under Röhrl and Geistdörfer at the Monte Carlo Rally (2nd place) and in the following month at Rally Sweden. After that, it served as a test vehicle and test car. A total of 22 vehicles of the Audi Sport quattro in rally version have been built.

2.) Lancia Stratos Group 4 [Replica with Dino engine]
This Lancia was built from an original road car into a perfect copy of the works cars used by the factory in 1976. Only the cockpit was strengthened to take into account today’s safety concerns and it is one of only very few that is powered today by a 4-valve engine thanks to new cylinder heads made.

3.) Peugeot 206 T16, Group B [Original]
Kalle Grundel drove this Peugeot in the German Rally Championship in 1985. Another classic example of how the rally treasures of the past need private initiatives to keep them running.

4.) Audi Sport Quattro S1, Group B [Original 1985]
This car is the original works Quattro driven by Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer on the 1985 Tour de Corse. In the same 1986 it was reassembled with parts of a standard homologation car by ex mechanics of the Audi Sport. The car was restored back to original rally spec from Rally New Zealand in 1985 as much as possible.

5.) Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2, Group B [Replica]
The Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 was built in 2017 by the company SG Power on an original body from 1986, partly original spare parts. As with other short Quattro's, the body was welded together from different parts of the Audi models.

6.) Opel Ascona 400, Group B [Original]
This chassis No. RA 50 is the last-ever Opel Ascona 400 built by the factory. Opel planned to use the Manta 400 on the Safari in 1983, but the homologation ran late and so another “last” Ascona had to be built for Rauno Aaltonen. After the Safari this RA 50 stayed in Kenya to be driven by an all ladies team in the Kenyan Championship. This car was brought back to Germany in 2009 where it was restored during one year to perfect original condition by Andreas Hoppe and his friends.

7.) Opel Manta 400, Group B [Original]
The Opel Manta 400 with chassis number RM16 was used by Ari Vatanen/Terry Harryman and Henri Toivonen/Fred Gallagher in the world rally championship in 1983. At the end of the season the vehicle was sold to Opel Team Ireland. In 2010 the car came back to Germany after 27 years. The car was restored to the original condition of the Greece Rally 1983.

9.) Renault R5 Turbo, Group B [Original]
The vehicle documents, which showed Németh Lázló as the last owner, left no doubt that it had to be Attila Ferjáncz’s car. The restoration work revealed all the original parts in the lavish spare parts package and the old Rothmans colours. It was a stroke of luck!

10.) Ford RS 200, Group S [Original]
John Wheeler is the spiritual father of the RS200 and through 1984 to 1986 as Chief Engineer for Ford Motorsport was responsible for the design and development of the RS200 for both road and rally applications. He purchased an RS200 test car which had been severely damaged at the rear end during a Rallycross event at Brands Hatch, and this became the basis for the new design.

11.) Fiat 131 Abarth Mirafiori, Group 4 [Replica]
The replica of the Audi Quattro A2 was rebuilt in 2006 based on a series model of the factory car from 1984. This car is restored precisely to the condition in which Walter Röhrl drove it to victory in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1984.
