From centuries the festival of Gangaur is being celebrated in rajasthan. in this festival the women of all age groups, married and unmarried, worship Gangaur. The word gangaur is derived from 'gan' means shivji and 'gaur' means mata parvati. Girls worship Isar-Gangaur daily for sixteen days from the next day of Holi.

The festival of Gangaur is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Tritiya. Women especially celebrate this festival from the second day of Holi (Chaitra Krishna Pratipada).

It is believed that fasting and worshiping of Gangaur protects the beauty of women. On the day of Gangaur pooja, women adorn sixteen adornedly and worship Goddess Gauri with the rituals. Although the festival of Gangaur is celebrated all over the country, but in Rajasthan, the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
