Italo Balbo was Italy's second greatest hero of the Fascist era. Everything had gone right for Balbo and it was perhaps mostly thanks to him more than anyone else bar Mussolini that the PNF was even able to get to power. As a genius man manager and organizer Balbo was instrumental in drumming up support in the early days and making the movement what it was. Later Balbo would dazzle the world as he took the Regia Aeronautica from nothing to something and led daring aerial cruises to the United States, Brazil, Spain and the Soviet Union. Mussolini was so jealous of this success that he had Balbo sent essentially into a Libyan Exile. Here, however, his star continued to shine and Libya was turned into Italy's Fourth Shore, an integral part of Italy itself rather than just a colony. Colonies rocked up in their 10,000s and thrived and it was purely thanks to Balbo. His story, however, came to an early end. This is the complete life of Italo Balbo.
