yes, picking daina was a pun on “renard” (even though shes so hard to tune... orz i tried my best with those long sustained notes but she is uncooperative...)

im not QUITE as proud of this one as i am with “in retrospect alone” as it was more of an experiment than anything, but it was fun to make for sure- i just feel like somethings missing. ive always sort of wanted to make fan music, especially for a series as rich of a mine for deeper characterization as castlevania! this one in particular is about maria renard, during the events of rondo of blood and symphony of the night, and her relationship to her adopted older brother richter belmont- during their first adventure, when she was just a child, and during his tragic downfall, when she was older. we never get to see a whole lot of her thoughts on his turn to villainy, apart from on a very surface level, so act two of this song is About That. would she blame herself for not realizing how much pressure he felt (since i definitely interpret richter’s possession stemming at least somewhat from his own doubts, even if shaft had to influence it)? i think the contrast between her attitudes between games is interesting and i wanted to tap into that contrast here

act one was originally going to be very simple, purely with music box, but i think maria herself would want something a bit more lively lol. i wanted to create the illusion of a little kid coming up with a song on the fly, so the melody is a little odd sounding! i hope you enjoy the contrast between the lyrics in the two “acts"
