Several years ago, I remember seeing a photographer post an image of a 3 person family. The photo was a full length shot of them at a distance. They were completely in focus giving that 3D almost popping out of the screen look and everything else was out focus. I couldn't believe that it wasn't photoshopped so I asked the photographer how he achieved that look.
He directed me to using a Depth of Field calculator to learn about depth of field. Once I began using the calculator, I was just blown away with the images I was able to get. Not just that, I now understood why and how to recreate it each time!
