Disaster triage nursing review about the color tag system and start method for mass casualties.

Disaster triage is used during situations when there is a high volume of wounded individuals that must be grouped or ranked based on their health status to receive care. The reason for disaster triage is to help use treatment resources and personnel wisely so the wounded can be treated.

Disaster triage includes a color-coded tagging system and a popular method called the START method.

The color-coded tagging system includes four colors: red, yellow, green, and black. The START method stands for "simple triage and rapid treatment" and is used to quickly assess the wounded individual’s breathing, circulation, and neuro status (specifically mental status).
