Chase Robinson and Chris Lee give you three reasons for optimism regarding Oklahoma football (4-1 so far) despite a brutal schedule ahead. Topics include:
Total defense plus turnover margin: The Sooners rank 25th in yards per play against, but that includes holding two Southeastern Conference offenses (Auburn, Tennessee) below their yards-per-play averages there (and in the case of Tennessee, well below its average).
The Sooners average plus-1.6 turnovers per game, which ranks sixth nationally in games vs. FBS foes.
Plus, guys like Billy Bowman and Kip Lewis can take a fumble or an interception back for a score.
The Sooners' offense has been better both running and throwing the football with Michael Hawkins at the helm.
Plus, Hawkins passed the look test at big moments, like his 2-point conversion vs. Auburn.
It would be hard for Oklahoma’s health situation to get worse. The Sooners would be a huge boost from the return of wide receiver Nic Anderson (expected back for Texas) Plus, receiver Jaril Farooq should be back from a broken foot before season’s end, and the return of perhaps OU’s best offensive lineman (Branson Hickman) would make a big difference.
