This weekend we had a wonderful hike and overnight camp with friends at the Ngumbi Base Camp near Mount Joyce.
This is a fabulous hike for families with the convenience of a toilet and picnic tables at an Abandoned School House. Ngumbi Base Camp is also a great place to stop over for the night for added adventure. The hike is approximately 7klm walk, or mountain bike ride, from the carpark.
The dam is a further 400m walk from the campsite, and has a tidy sandy bottom for swimming. It is also easily kayaked from the car park on the other side of the dam.
GETTING THERE
Wyaralong Dam is a 30 minute drive from Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia.
HIGHLIGHTS NEAR BY
Afterwards we enjoyed a paddle of beer, and European lunch at the Scenic Rim Brewery, a half hours drive just past Boonah.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Our recommendation would be to camp on a new moon (when the moon's at it's darkest) and a clear night to enjoy a beautiful star lit sky.
While there is tank water at the campsite, it also has a "Do Not Drink" sign on it. We used a water purifier to collect and treated water from the dam.
