One of the toughest bad habits we often pick up in Spey Casting is engaging the top hand, or what we call "Top Hand Push". It's an easy thing to start since we so often also do this as single hand casters when casting single-hand rods. In both cases it's not good mechanics nor generally desired. But have you ever thought of the bottom hand in spey casting like a double haul?
In this video Jeff explains:
What Top hand push looks like and what it results from.
He chats about why you don't want to you use your top hand and how it negatively impacts casting.
He shows you how to use the bottom hand in a Spey cast properly and makes an easy to understand comparison between the Double Haul in Single Hand casting and bottom hand in Spey.
He also provides you a simple exercise you can do to practice using a simple term Steve Rajeff started for learning how to Double Haul.
