Harley-Davidson Panhead is the basis for every Harley engine that came after. The Shovelhead and the Evolution engine still heavily retained the dna of the Panhead. Now the Twin Cam was a pretty big departure from the Panhead but Harley-Davidson returned to something resembling the Panhead with Milwaukee 8. The Panhead is one of the most simple engines Harley-Davidson produced and today is highly desirable for an original. Original Harley Panhead engines are out there but they command some serious money. There are plenty of parts still available today, even complete reproduction Panhead crate engines with big inches.
