Clean Up Woman was a huge hit for Betty Wright in the early seventies, delivering her a gold record as an eighteenth birthday present. But she was more than just a teenage star: she became the queen of the Miami soul sound. In the seventies, her reputation as a pioneering soul singer continued to grow: her single Tonight Is The Night was a big hit in discos. It's no accident that her live album sold the best - she knows exactly what to do on stage. When interest in soul was rekindled at the beginning of the new millennium, Betty Wright was still touring. Last year she released the album The Movie, in collaboration with hip-hop group The Roots. On the album, Wright skillfully switches between classic and modern soul. Forty years after her first gold record, the Clean Up Woman still effortlessly sweeps the competition off the stage.
