Billy Strayhorn's "Isfahan" as played by Bijan Taghavi (piano) & Luther Hughes (bass) at Jazz at the Merc in Temecula, CA 3/6/20. Join us for our first performance together in over 4 years, back at the Merc on Thurs 5/16/24 as we explore the ART OF THE DUO.
🎻 Luther was the long-time bassist for the Gene Harris Quartet and has worked with many of jazz’s most celebrated icons over his 40+ year career: Horace Silver, Joe Henderson and Carmen McRae, to name a few. During the Pandemic, I was a guest panelist for Luther’s weekly masterclass at California State University Fullerton, “Hearin’ The Changes”, alongside Chuck Israels, Bert Ligon and other renowned jazz educators.
📅 While we continue to stay in touch by phone every week comparing notes as fellow educators, this will be our first time PERFORMING together in over 4 years! This was our last performance together “the day before the world shut down” in March 2020. So it’s only fitting that our first time performing together since the Pandemic will be at the Merc exploring the ART OF THE DUO.
🌵 After our duo concert Thursday 5/16 in SoCal, Luther and I head to Scottsdale, AZ for a special TRIO concert Friday 5/17 at the Ravenscroft. This is one of the most premiere venues in the world and I am thrilled to be back and to play on this special Ravenscroft piano again.
