VLOG 18 - Phnom Penh, Cambodia First Night

A video showing an afternoon and evening in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In the afternoon it was raining pretty heavily so going out on foot was a complete write off. I wasn't that bothered as I was still pretty tired from my 6,30am flight from Bangkok. A couple of beers and an afternoon nap saw me refreshed for the evening ahead.

In the evening I ate some Amok in a random restaurant on 172 street. It was a bland but edible dish that was unremarkable in almost every way.

The Riverside Bistro was ok (apart from the 3 powercuts). I probably stayed for the 2nd beer just to stare at the pretty singer and the tight outfits of the cute waitresses. $3 a beer is apparently expensive for Cambodia, but this equates to about 100 baht so was no big deal. They had a weird offer of buy 3 beers get the 4th free, wasn't staying longer as there was really nothing happening there.

The rough plan of the night was to go to Riverside Bistro, have a drink and then head on to 136 street for some fun. But, I walked the wrong way going out of the bar and somehow got lost. It is a good reminder to do more research next time!

Because I got lost I ended up drinking at some random bar, and then hung out with a group of expats drinking and bar hopping until very late. I noticed that the expats in Phnom Penh were much more down to earth and friendly than in Bangkok. Many times I was surprised how I was invited over to join people, and they were genuinely interested in my stories and adventures over SEA from the last few years. Maybe it was just pure luck that everyone was so friendly?

The outro is taken from the balcony of the corner bar, 136 street. I did finally manage to find the bars I wanted to visit and get some decent footage on a different night. Watch out in the future for more Phnom Penh videos.
