This video walks through a complete exterior door jamb replacement (not a repair) using a 4 9/16" jamb, along with a 2" extension kit. This includes routing out new hinge and strike plate insets.
See Part 2 also as I wrap up the installation with shimming and leveling out the jamb, followed by replacing the exterior door frame.
The tools used in this job include:
• Fletcher Armour Wood N4916 Exterior Jamb Set
• Masonite 6.56-in x 36-in x 80-ft Primed Door Casing Kit
• HingeMate350 – door mortising kit
• Dewalt miter saw
• Dewalt drill set
• Oscillating multi tool for smaller cuts
• Circular saw
• Router
• Speed square
• Chisel
• Hammer
• Tape measure
• Crowbar
• Level
• Exterior screws in varying lengths (listed in video)
• Shims
• Exterior caulk
• Exterior paint
• Protective eyewear
I enjoy doing new projects and figuring it all out. Let me know in the comments your tips and experience with a door jamb replacement.
Best wishes and, remember, you can do it!
