What if I stopped Earth form spinning? Turns out, gravity would create a completely different world from the one we live in now.

I’m bringing back the drama! I don’t want to sound overly confident but this time I’ve done it, I have found a way to end all humans!

If the Earth suddenly stopped spinning around its own axis, the consequences would be destructive and - even better - they would be immediate. Because of the speed of the Earth’s rotation, if the planet was to stop spinning everything not attached to bedrock would continue moving until it was stopped by say, a huge mountain.

But what about gravity? Gravity can’t help you in this scenario! You’re going flying if you want to or not. Rocks, trees, animals, humans would be swept into the atmosphere and most humans would certainly die. Sooo groovy!

But I am a patient virus: What if the Earth gradually stopped spinning? The Earth would look completely different. Without the additional force of rotation, gravity would be the only force responsible for the Earth’s shape. The oceans would migrate to the poles, forming two huge polar oceans and one gigantic ring continent in between. Day and night would each be six months long! And temperatures on the dark side could get as low as -75°C and the sunny side could reach temperatures up to +75°C! No human would be able to survive this!
