Dear Friends,

Though Klang is considered one of the ‘big’ cities of Malaysia, Art & Culture do not feature much as part of the local public’s profile. The ‘social capital’ of the city in terms of theatre venues, galleries, art studios or anything to do with Art & Culture is sadly lacking. Like the many state capitals such as Ipoh, Klang does not have a running Arts Centre where the community can share the diverse cultural aspirations of the community. We think they should!

Generally, Klang-ites have to go to Kuala Lumpur to see good theatres, exhibitions or attend art happenings.

Priya represents a teacher/artist who has decided to pioneer an art studio to teach and bring visual and performing arts to the Klang community.

Fortunately, she is someone who has made inroads and her initiative to start the cultivation of the next generation of Klang artists, especially from the Indian community, (the younger generation of which have been known to be associated with the wrong kind of criminal activities) has been met with success.

Odia artist Kishore Sahoo had previously conducted a workshop for Priya’s students and since he is presently in Malaysia he was invited again to conduct this workshop in Klang.

It was a rather typical Sunday weekend where the studios are at their busiest with classes of visual art, dance and music.

The positive atmosphere of creativity to increase the exposure of Art and Culture in Klang spearheaded by Teacher Priya, is palpable.

We hope her hardwork to cultivate a new generation of Klang artists will be recognised by the community and blessed with successful result.
