First opened in 1953 Blackley Cemetery and Crematorium sits on the site of an old farm and golf course. spanning 40 acres it is one of the largest in Manchester and contains Manchester’s only Crematorium. Home to Doris Speed and Corporal Clifford Haughton. Doris was an actress in Coronation Street up until 1983 and Clifford was unfortunately killed when an IRA time bomb exploded blowing up the coach he was on, on the M62.

In 1991, 63 prisoners were exhumed from Strangeways prison and reinterred here into two mass graves.
