Join us for our third Photo Tuesday Artist Talk featuring Seth Kantner!

Seth Kantner was born and raised in the wilderness of northern Alaska and homeschooled on the land. He has worked as a trapper, commercial fisherman, gardener, adjunct professor, and has spoken nationwide and in Canada, and taught in small and diverse schools. He is a Whiting Award winner, for his debut novel Ordinary Wolves, which also won the Milkweed National Fiction Prize, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, Publishers Weekly Best Books, and other awards. He followed his fiction debut with a memoir, Shopping for Porcupine which won the University of Alaska Books of the Year, and he is the author of a children’s book, Pup and Pokey, and a collection of essays, Swallowed by the Great Land. A multiple Rasmuson Award winner, in 2018 he was also awarded a Whiting Creative Nonfiction grant for A Thousand Trails Home as a work- in-progress. His writing and wildlife photographs have appeared in The New York Times, Smithsonian, Reader’s Digest, Outside and many other publications and anthologies, and he has been a columnist for Orion, the Anchorage Daily News, and Alaska Dispatch News.

Kantner attended the University of Alaska and University of Montana, where he earned a BA in journalism. A commercial fisherman for nearly five decades in Kotzebue Sound, he divides his home between Paungaqtaugruk and Kotzebue where his family lives.
