Modern cooling fan circuitry has advanced a great deal and is now as complex as any other side of the automotive electronic industry. Today's cooling fans are computer controlled and various methods are used to trigger these units into operation. Some manufacturers may be using solid state technology or transistor chips to energize these components. The older trusty relay is also used, but how it is controlled is what has changed.

Most cooling fans now employ their own electronic module, which is also networked to the rest of the vehicle's communication array. Here you'll also learn about duty-cycle controlled cooling fans. Gone are the days when the control method was a simple resistor. Cooling fans are now controlled by the ECM through the respective module (network) and using duty-cycle control signals. Here you'll also be exposed to the current path, voltage and sensor signal input.
