She was ‘cancelled’, and scorned by her friends and her community but she was never alone. She had the most amazing husband a woman could ask for and even a simple man of deen is more than enough for any woman. If you had to choose between a man of faith and the world, then choose the man of faith because he is more than the world even if he just quietly sits and reads his Qu’ran. We women are complicated enough and we are ever-shifting like the plates of Mother Earth. The mountains are described in the Qu’ran like masculine pegs whose very presence anchors the earth and prevents further quakes and instability. The very presence of a simple sober man creates a feeling of stability in our realities.

The feminists can get defensive about it but the reality is that there wouldn’t be movies and books like “He’s Just Not That Into You” if the question wasn’t asked by modern ‘liberated’ women. It’s okay to want a male presence, Allah Put that in us too…

Women mocked her when he went up the mountain to meditate but she went up the long journey to give him food so that he wouldn’t have to come down and replenish… just one of many examples of great support… So is it any wonder that the new leader of Mecca slept by her grave in a tent after he conquered the area?

Besides a kind husband, a circle of angels, and her great honour; she also had one other really important companion… a sweet, little girl she gave birth to, a little girl named Fatimah. Since her mother’s departure, she became so nurturing and close to her father that she became known as Umm-Abu – her father’s mother…
