Recently, I wrote a song called “Dear America,” as a letter to an old friend who I saw was hurting. So that, hopefully, we’ll remember that we’re still “in progress” and treat each other with care. (Full Lyrics Below)

Dear America by James Warda
Dear America, I’m writing this letter home
I’ve been gone for far too long
I know I left you all alone
Just standing there, with the twilight in your tears
Dear America, I see the pain you’re in
Not knowing where to begin
To put the pieces… together again
I’m sure you could use a friend
By the red glare light, I thought I could see you cry
Through the bedroom door, like a thousand times before
Like a weary man, your head between your hands
Dear America, I feel your anger, too
Like there’s nothing you can do
To bring you back to who you want to be
Land of the brave and free
Like when you marched to war, when you swore you’d march no more
To save a world gone mad
When it seemed so simple
To tell good from bad, and right from wrong
Be who you were born to be, a sweet land of liberty
From sea to shining sea, with mountain majesties
By the dawn’s early light beneath those spacious skies
It’s time to make your stand, upon this land… for you and me
Dear America, I still believe in you, All the things that you will do
When once again you rise strong and kind
To ease your troubled mind
Dear America, I’m signing this letter home
I’ll be back before the morn’
Beneath her tender torch and flame
And together we will start again
We’ll walk in red glare light, wrest the day from bitter night
Out through the bedroom door, ready to be what they made us for
Beaconed on a hill, to show that love is still…. here
Be who you were born to be, a sweet land of liberty
From sea to shining sea, with mountain majesties
By the dawn’s early light beneath those spacious skies
It’s time to make our stand upon this land… for you and me
Dear America
Dear America
I’m comin’ home
