But Doctor Kersten's magic fingers manage to relieve him. From there is born a singular relationship between the executioner and his doctor. Gradually Kersten makes him understand that there is a direct connection between the horror of his actions and his illness. Thus, alone, unarmed and half-prisoner of the Nazi machine, closely monitored, Kersten will force Himmler to lie to Hitler. Week after week, Kersten sells her care for men and women condemned to concentration camps. He thus snatched thousands of victims from the fanatical Nazi torturers.
