Montage with ballet dancer Sergei Polunin created as a "Thank You" to the Russian fans who have supported Sergei Polunin since he left the Royal Ballet in 2012. Selections highlight Sergei's performances in Russia beginning with his "Big Ballet" appearance aired in October 2012 through his most recent performance in July 2022. Locations include Moscow, Novosibirisk, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, and Sevastopol.

Song: "Sleeping Pill" by Maestro Chives (feat. Royal Blue).

** Editor's note: Because I chose to focus only on Sergei's performances for Russian audiences and tried to include clips from every year since 2012, while also trying to mostly use clips I haven't used in my other montages, many of Sergei's performances, including his more recent classical ballet performances, are missing from this video. To see more of his recent work you can watch these montages:

** AFTER THE ROYAL BALLET: For those who only know about Sergei's time in the Royal Ballet ** Sergei Polunin left the Royal Ballet in January 2012. After his hopes to dance in the USA fell through and after several uncertain months of searching for a new place to dance, he followed advice to go to Russia to re-establish himself and soon met Igor Zelensky who became a mentor to him and brought him to the Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre (MAMT) to dance. On July 8th, 2012, six months after he left Covent Garden, Sergei was back onstage in the MAMT's premier performance of "Coppelia".

At Zelensky's encouragement he participated in the first season of the Russian Dance Competition "Bolshoi (Big) Ballet" which aired October - November 2012. His appearance (and subsequent win) on this show helped launch his very successful dance career in Russia. While undeniably popular in London (selling out season tickets years in advance), Sergei has said that it only took 5 days of appearing on Big Ballet to help him gain the same level of fame and name-recognition in Russia as he had experienced in London after 5 years of dancing with the Royal Ballet.

Sergei spent the next 3 years dancing at the Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre (MAMT) and the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT). He performed in around 100 ballet productions including multiple performances of Giselle, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quioxte, LaBayadere, Mayerling, and The Nutcracker. (NOTE: most of the dance footage that you can find on YouTube, as well as nearly all the dance footage in the documentary "Dancer", is footage from his performances AFTER he left the Royal Ballet.)

In May of 2016 he left full time theater work to establish his own independent dance company and pursue a wider variety of independent creative partnerships in dance, film, and modeling. He has toured worldwide with his ballet company, Polunin Ink, producing and performing new solos and ballets including Sacre, Bolero, Satori, Little Red and the Wolf, Rasputin, Dante: Metanoia, and Johan Koborg's "Romeo and Juliet". He's also performed at multiple galas and special solo appearances for local and national events and has danced in nearly a dozen music videos which have garnered a combined total of over 50 million views. He has acted in several feature films and modeled for magazines and ad campaigns for Elle, Vogue, Esquire, GQ, and many more.

Motivated by his desire to help and support young dancers, in 2017 he established a charitable foundation that supports the education of young dancers in several countries. He also serves as the acting rector of the Sevastopol Ballet Academy. He gives Masterclasses to ballet students there and around the world - whenever possible, he holds a Masterclass session wherever he performs his shows.
