The doctors asked Sofia and Roman Alexandrov if they would take their newborn child with Down syndrome home. For this family, it was their fifth child. But the parents had no doubts, not even for a second. "All our children, regardless of any disabilities and diagnoses," they said.
The doctors at the maternity hospital reassured them that, aside from the syndrome, the girl was otherwise healthy. However, when they got home, it turned out that Tasia had a heart defect, hypothyroidism, and right-sided hearing loss.
In nine years, the parents achieved the impossible; by the age of 2.5, the child spoke conversational English and Spanish, was learning Latin, played the piano and violin, and was fully socialized and self-sufficient. Look at how a child with Down syndrome can be raised into a little genius!
