Matho is a monastery which is not part of the tours visited by tourists in Ladakh. Yet at an altitude of 3,700m, it contains a treasure composed of Tangkas (paintings on fabric) and bronze statuettes.

The monks called on a young French woman, Nelly Rieuf, an expert in Himalayan art, to restore these works and build a museum. In the heart of winter, in harsh living conditions and after 2 years of effort, Nelly put together a team of experts supported by young women from the village whom she patiently trained while trying to raise funds for go to the end of this adventure.
At the same time, life at the monastery continues while an annual festival full of color and dance is being prepared, at the height of the religious fervor that animates the Ladakhis.
