in the next episode we'll be going over the midi configuration. I've gone through dozens of keyboards and setups but this is my best so far. The 3 keyboards to rule them all:
Viscount Legend '70s
Hammond SK Pro
Studiologic Numa Compact 2x / Sequential Trigon-6
All in all, it's a fairly lightweight rig which is a tremendous bonus
If the Hammond SK Pro came in an 88 key version it would eliminate the need for the Numa Compact, which would unlock the use of the Trigon-6 keyboard version instead of the desktop module.
An alternative to the Studiologic Numa Compact 2x is the Nektar Impact GXP88 which has a friendlier price tag but has slightly inferior key action. I do like that the Numa has joysticks for pitch and mod instead of wheels because the other two keyboards in this rig already have wheels. Diversify!
Alternatives to the Hammond SK Pro are the Yamaha YC or Nord Stage but none of them have the realtime control over synth parameters like the Hammond.
If you like the YC88, you could use it as 2nd tier and use the Crumar Mojo Lower to be the keys for the organ as 1st tier. Then you could have any synth you want for 3rd tier.
An alternative to the Trigon-6 is Roland SE-02 but everything about it feels like small potatoes. But still! It would be a very good start.
See you next month!
