Mag ik dood (Please let me die) is a poignant documentary which asks whether those suffering from chronic mental illness should have the choice to die with compassion and dignity.

It was released in the Netherlands in 2008 by Dutch documentary maker and journalist Eveline van Dijck. She had lost a sister who became psychotic at an elderly age. After several treatments, her sister suffered from severe depression for many years, resulting in suicide. Eveline asks in the film whether there could have been a better more humane option for her sister to fulfill her death wish. There are also interviews with family members who have lost loved ones to suicide and their wish, too, that there had been a better way. It is done with great sensitivity.
