In 1986, the ASU Sun Devil football team won its first Pac 10 title, thus earning a New Years Day Rose Bowl berth against Big 10 champs University of Michigan Wolverines. This was the actual television footage of the ASU Marching Band and Cheerleading Squad in the Tournament of Roses parade that day.
