Family the Paradise Rev. Jacob Antony Koodathinkal 47th Episode on successful family life.
Today we will discuss on the topic How many dots in a Tali and Why?
In Kerala (Malayalee Christian), every Christian bride has a Minnu.
The Minnu is a pendant with a cross, a symbol of Christianity. Shows the Sacrificial love and also the heavenly hope.
The heart shape symbolises the concept of love and the shape of the banyan tree represent the care and safety.
Usually we see Seven, 9 and 12 gold dots form the Cross.
Lets see how many should be there and why
1) Minnu is a cross made with 7 small beads(muthu) signifying the perfection
In the bible the number seven has many features, Seven represents perfection , here through the marriage one become perfect. It also represent the bride, the groom, the couple’s parents and the God. The Minnu passed through seven strands of thread which should be taken from the "Manthrakodi". It also has the same meaning.
2. Minnu is a cross made with 9 small beads(muthu) signifying the fruit of Spirit
Minnu means these 9 gifts should burin in your life, Minnukia, Jwalikkuka
Some decide the dots according to the size of the minnu
3. Minnu is a cross made with 12 small beads(muthu) signifying the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit (3) and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, the nine visible attributes of a true Christian --- love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (9).
Here we see the presence of Invisible God of Trinity with the fruit of the spirit
I would say 9 or 12 is fine
Minnu on the threads is not going to last long, it has to be moved to a chain. Often husbands cuts the thread and moves the Minnu to a gold Chain on the same
