The Chrysler VH Valiant Charger R/T, introduced in 1971, quickly became an iconic symbol of Australian muscle cars. This high-performance variant of the Valiant Charger was designed to compete with the likes of Ford's Falcon GT and Holden's Torana.

The R/T, which stands for Road/Track, was engineered with a focus on performance and handling, featuring the powerful 265-cubic-inch (4.3-litre) Hemi-6 engine. The most notable among these was the E37 and E49 iterations, produced remarkable power and torque for its time. Then came the E48 and E49 variant, which in particular, became legendary.

All these models boasted triple Weber carburettors, which could generate between 2048 and 302 horsepower, making them some of the fastest accelerating production cars in the world during the early 1970s.

Beyond its impressive engine options, the VH Valiant Charger R/T was celebrated for its bold, aggressive styling. The car featured a sleek, coupe body with a long hood, short rear deck, duct-tail spoiler and distinctive 'hockey stick' side stripes that underscored its sporty nature.

Inside, the Charger R/T offered a driver-focused cockpit with sports instrumentation and seating that provided both comfort and support during high-speed driving. Its combination of performance, unique design, and Australian craftsmanship helped the VH Valiant Charger R/T earn a lasting place in automotive history, revered by enthusiasts and collectors alike for its raw power and cultural significance in the muscle car era.
