Canyoneering Spry Canyon (Early) September 2019
We wanted to make a run through Spry before the weather changed so we got to do this on the last 100F day of 2019. The only pro of this was not having to carry wet suits and warmer clothing. The heat was miserable and I actually got a little ill right around rappel 5. Spry, for the most part, was dry. The final small slot had waist deep water which was somewhat refreshing but it also made the sand situation that much worse. I had forgotten just how sandy this particular canyon is. We ran out of water just before hitting Pine Creek, we all carried up 3 liters apiece. Due to the heat, a gallon would have been appropriate.
Total Rappels came to twelve. Please pay attention to what happens when I'm about to descend on Rappel 11 and why it is important to have your break hand on and an even better idea to have someone below on belay.
A permit issued by the NPS is required to descend this canyon. Thanks for watching, stay safe out there. Please consider subscribing, support for the channel is greatly appreciated!
