I hope you enjoy our latest dive video from West End Roatán. For me, these videos are a way to remember the experience and recall the many species we see while diving. After trips like this we like to look up the various species in our guides just to learn more about the creatures we encounter and their environment. Most of the many species of fish and other creatures we recorded are listed below with the time markers. Please let me know If you think I misidentified a species or if you know any of the species I did not identify.

What I love about diving the West End is the beautiful topography of the coral reef. Most dive sites have interesting maze-like channels. On this trip we encountered many turtles and more ocean triggerfish than I’ve ever seen. On one dive, our divemaster Douglas found a tiny pipefish in the sand. Frustratingly, from that point onward I closely examined every stick and leaf stem I saw looking for another pipefish but to no avail.

Our Dive Outfit:
We had a great experience with Moana Divers. A big thanks to Dani—our dive guide for the week—as well as Mauricio, Cris, Douglas, Kevin and Olman.

Video Equipment:
- GoPro Hero 7 Black with underwater housing (4K, 60fps, Protune color profile)
- GoPole (retractable pole )
- Light - I use a handheld LED flashlight that is made for video. It provides an even light without a hotspot.
- Flip Filter for GoPro. I use the red filter and macro lens. The macro lens is hit or miss for me since it’s very hard to tell if the subject is in focus while diving. You may notice several scenes where the subject is not in focus and this is most likely shot with the macro lens. I leave these scenes in the video if the species is identifiable just so that I can remember what we saw.
