Hi friends,

Parasnath hill is the highest peak in Jharkhand located at a height of 1365 m above sea level (nearly 4500 feet). The hill is named after the 23rd Tirthankara, Lord Parshvanath. This jain temple, or Shri Sammed Shikharji is one of the most holy pilgrimage place for the Jain community. Out of the 24 Tirthankaras, 20 of them got Nirvana on the Parasnath Hill.

Q. How to reach Parasnath?
A. Parasnath is well connected by roads and railways. Almost all trains in the Howrah-New Delhi route and Howrah-Mumbai route has stoppage at Parasnath station. Even if not, then one need to take the trains to either Koderma, Gomoh, Gaya, or Hazaribag Road and from there take the train to Parasnath.

Q. What to do after arriving at Parasnath station?
A. One need to go Madhuban, which is the base point of Parasnath trekking. Cabs and Rikshaw is available just outside the station. The distance to Madhuban is around 24 km, the price is around 300-500 INR. (more fare at night)

Q. What is the best time to start the trek?
A. Well, October to December is the peak season for the Parasnath trekking and also during the festivals. But I will suggest to go in January to February, because of the pleasant weather. Also no guide is needed for the trek. The trail is very well maintained (except for the lack of some lighting which would have been helpful during night). There are shelters to hide in case of rainfall.
Also at the base of Parasnath, there are several Dharamshala and guest houses at affordable rates.

Q. Perfect time to start the trek?
A. I will suggest to start the trek at 1.30 or 2 am if you want to see the sunrise from the top.

Q. Is it safe to trek at night?
A. Completely safe, in fact many people start at that time only. Except for the absence of proper light, there is no others issues, the trails are well marked (keeping walking on the paved road only).

Q. What are the options for food and water?
A. You can always carry your own water and some fruits or dried fruits. In case you don't lot of stalls are available on the way at regular intervals even at night. Just remember to carry some cash. There is only one stall just below Gautam Swamy temple which accepts the Upi payment. Also the network signals are not that good.

This video gives a detailed information on how to reach the highest peak in Jharkhand.
