PATTOO - THE TRADITIONAL WOMEN WEAR OF HIMACHAL PRADESH
Pattoo is an ethnic wrap around dress worn by the women folk of Himachal Pradesh. Handwoven with pure local wool, Pattoo is made by Himachali women weavers on Handlooms using colourful woollen and silken threads.
It is a thick and heavy shawl like garment which ranges between 9 to 12 feet in length and 4 to 5 feet in width. Pattoo weaving was originated by the indigenous tribes of Himachal Pradesh about 90 years ago for their use against the cold weather.
The unique ethnic designs and pahadi colour patterns used on pattoo of varied variety unveils the magnificent calibre of the weavers of Himachal Pradesh.

MEET OUR PATTOO WEAVER – Mrs. LATA THAKUR
Under Sanskratika’s Indian Cultural Textile Art Segment, We are delighted to reveal 3 Pattoo patterns available now on order with us, woven by Mrs Lata Thakur – A weaver from Himachal’s Rumsu Village who weaves from her home on a wooden handloom with local pure wool.

1. Chitra Pattoo – Woven with Black and White threads in chequered pattern along with Red Dhari Border on both sides of its length and a traditional thread border on both sides of its width.
2. Patterned Chitra Pattoo with Coloured stripes: Woven in ek phulwa pattern with black and white threads as the base along with red dhari border on both sides of its length and a traditional thread border on both sides of its width. This Pattoo has coloured woven stripes in the middle across its length.
3. Ek Phulwa Patterned Pattoo – Woven with grey and black wool threads in ek phulwa pattern along with red dhari border on both sides of its length and a traditional thread border on both sides of its width.
