In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. In 1910 Savarkar was sent to Kala Pani, the Andaman Cellular Jail on account of treason. Savarkar was studying law in Britain and wrote the book The Indian War of Independence about the Indian Rebellion of 1857 was banned by the British colonial authorities. Savarkar was arrested and ordered to be extradited to India for his connections with the revolutionary group India House. In Jail Savarkar wrote several mercy petition which became contentious after it was alleged that he ask for forgiveness from British on Gandhi’s Suggestion. In May 1921, the Savarkar brothers were moved to a jail in Ratnagiri. he wrote his "Essentials of Hindutva" that formulated his theory of Hindutva. Later he became the president of Hindu Mahasabha and made several controversial statement about Nazi party in Germany and Muslims in India.
