Far to often people believe that the whole point of having a conversation is to 'win the argument', when it should be an exercise of exchanging ideas and self-improvement. So next time you have a discussion with someone you disagree with, try these 7 tips!

7 WAYS TO HAVE A BETTER CONVERSATION
#1: Start with a human connection to see where you are both coming from.
#2: Identify three things you agree on first to see if any common ground can be discovered.
#3: Make clear that it's okay to say, "I don't know" so you can have a more intellectually honest conversation without anyone feeling overly defensive.
#4: Encourage self-critiques so that each side can be more open to the fact that no position is perfect.
#5: Ask questions throughout to show you are listening and to help clarify positions
#6: Avoid using labels wherever possible to help reduce unnecessary assumptions or potential mischaracterisations.
#7: Find common ground which DOES NOT mean you have to meet half way, but instead see where your differing positions can connect.

Huge thanks to YouTube for giving me the opportunity to create an animated (and upgraded) version of a video I previously made called 'A Better Way to Argue' that can be found here:
