Today we climb Peña Orniz, the highest peak in the asturian municipality of Somiedo (2194 m). At the same time, this beautiful hiking trail allowed us to climb other peaks (including Calabazosa) and visit the areas of Lakes of Saliencia and Lake of the Valley.
The trail is circular, covers a distance of 19 km and has a significant elevation gain (around 1300 m.). As I mention in the video, the trail passes through areas where there is no defined path and segments where it is necesary to use the hands to climb. For this reasons, it is advised to hike this trail is you are experienced and in good shape. If you are looking for something more reasonable, it is possible to hike this trail anti-clockwise, reach Peña Orniz and the go back. You will need to be in good shape but is it not as hard as hiking the complete trail.
