Disassembly of the motor found in a tower fan retrieved from the trash. Upon a closer look, it seems the previous owner shorted the timer circuit so the fan would work continuously, which led to overheating. You can see the burnt coils and thermal fuse. The synchronous motor responsible for the rotation of the tower around it's vertical axis was salvaged and will become a hand crank phone charger.
