Today we are going to be exploring the Irem Shriners Temple located in Pennsylvania. This massive temple was built in 1907 and features one of the largest and most beautiful auditoriums in the area. The building was used as a performing arts theater and hosted various ritual and social events for the Shriners. Between weddings, graduations, and even orchestra performances, this building held it all. It was said that sometime in the early 2000s, the building closed its doors due to more modern theaters being built in the area. There were plans to turn it into another type of venue, but nothing went forward. The Wilkes Barre Chamber of Commerce bought the building in 2005 in hope to restore. However, due to lack of funds, the building remained vacant for many years. In 2019, the Irem Temple Restoration Group took ownership of the building and is in the process of trying to restore this beautiful temple to its former glory.
