Why aren't I happy? Why am I unhappy despite being in pursuit of happiness? It's not hard to be happy once you understand what you truly are and see that everytime you look for happiness outside of yourself, in an object, you are looking away from the happiness you seek.

5:36 The inquiry has to be open...
...and it has to have its roots in not-knowing.

***"So having eliminated this objection that this approach was limited, I go back and try to demonstrate how, what kind of connection there is between happiness and seeking the truth about what we are. In other words, seeking the truth about who is it who is happy or not happy.

And, if we as consciousness are, as most people believe to be the case, if we are a limited consciousness, in other words, in that which is our essential being, awareness, is limited and mortal, there is going to be in our life, a sense of impending doom, a sense of urgency that is going to deprive us from enjoying happiness in a continuous fashion. Because our life is going to hinge around a constant worrying about the survival of this body, which is by essence, mortal, impermanent. So a futile attempt to make permanent that which is impermanent.

...and as a result we will live our life with a sense of imminent danger constantly present, in the background. Also, with frustration, having this intense feeling that we are not living our life the way we could. That we are not enjoying all the possibilities. That we are not developing the potential of this human body-mind organism to its fullest. Another way to put it is whatever action we take we have regrets about it. We have a total uncertainty what to do next. Because we lack clarity, and we go for the next pleasure knowing full well that there is going to be a price to pay down the road for this, or we will deprive ourselves from the next pleasure, hoping that we will be rewarded down the road for our sacrifice. But both options are not conducive to happiness. The removal, if possible, of the sense of impending doom, leads to the elimination of the fundamental worry in the background, and opens the gate for happiness or inner peace. So that I hope I have made the case, you see for that."
