Today as a mechanic, I explained why you don't follow the oil life percentage in your ram 1500 and ram 2500 because it is not accurate. I show you following the oil life meter runs your oil too long and could damage your hemi engine. I also show you how to properly change the oil on a 2022 ram 2500 power wagon with a 6.4 HEMI. and show you the oil filter location!

hope everyone is doing well. I was a little sick over the weekend and so I figured doing my first oil change would be a nice easy video for my sensitive stomach. I also wanted to talk about the very very long oil life meter which to me makes no sense and is wayy to long of oil change periods.

So I looked right into the owners manual and it says very clearly to not exceed 13,000km per oil change and if I followed the oil life gauge in my truck it would of put me past that. I know in my RAM 1500 I ran out my oil life meter fully and it was over 14,000km which is again way to long between oil changes.

I think the max anyone should run oil intervals is around 5000 miles. Personally I run mobile 1 synthetic oil and I change my oil every 6,000km which may seem early to some but having good clean engine oil is the best thing you can do to protect your engine and as a mechanic it's easy for me change my oil.

the other big thing is that these hemi engine have lifter issues (aka hemi tick) and so these lifters are hydraulic lifters which run on engine oil and so if your engine oil is dirty, the oil passages supplying these lifter is every small and if one gets slightly clogged with sludge you could ruin your valve train. a very expensive repair.

So the lesson is to not follow the oil life meter and to change your oil regularly at 5,000 miles!

I also show you guys how to change the oil on a 6.4 hemi. I show you where to locate the oil filter on the 6.4 hemi and how to install the oil filter!
