When styles or masters e.g. in InDesign share properties you can base them on each other. It basically creates a parent-children relation where the based style will inherit properties from the parent. Doing this you don’t need to set up the same properties or guides etc. more than once. Furthermore, if they change you can change it for all of them at once.
