We invite you to view When the Birds Stopped Singing, a new AWB video profiling trauma healing and disaster relief work in Puerto Rico. AWB has sent three teams to the island since last December (including a service trip happening right now) to provide treatments in underserved communities hit hard by Hurricane Maria.
This disaster is not over by any means: hundreds of thousands of people still have no electricity and have lost their homes and livelihoods. A new Harvard study just revealed that 4,645 people died due to Maria and its aftermath, comparable to our national loss in 9/11 and from Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane season in the Caribbean started June 1st. Many people describe their dread and fear of what may be coming. Levels of post-traumatic stress are very high.
AWB continues to offer field training and collaboration with local acupuncturists and community groups to create ongoing mobile clinics for trauma reduction. The FEMA Voluntary Agency has worked closely with AWB to make this possible, as have AWB volunteers and donors. Thank you for making this possible.
Please donate to the AWB Puerto Rico Relief Fund to make sure this work continues.
