This Fir Tree take down was for Alligator Creek Falling Ltd in Sooke B.C. The tree had extensive decay throughout the lower stem, a large cavity in the top quarter of the canopy and a prominent lean towards a house. A large section of the standing stem will be retained as a wildlife pole for the next 10 years at least. Thereafter it may be shortened a bit more. 2 of us completed the work by early-mid afternoon. We were able to discharge the woodchip at the base of the tree to lessen the impact and deflection of falling logs throughout. The whole area was logged in the 60s I believe. But this tree was evidently left standing because it was comparatively a poor specimen of little commercial value.
