There are many limestone caves on the island, and the karst topography created by nature is attractive, and in recent years experience activities such as scuba diving and caving are gaining popularity. The coastal area from Nishihara to Kunigamisaki, where sea turtles gather, forests around Mt. It is also known as the place where Takamori Saigo was exiled. Flowers such as Erabu lily, Solidago, and Gladiolus are also thriving, and potatoes and Easter lilies are designated as Kagoshima brand production areas. In order to secure irrigation water, construction of a subsurface dam is currently underway with the goal of completion in 2021. There is no Habu on the island. (Refer to "Shimadasu")
