On day 2 we are going towards Ujjain, we started our journey at 10 am. We had our breakfast on the way and reach Ujjain by around 12 pm.

We have booked our room at Gujarati Samaj Ujjain, here you can get nice rooms at a reasonable rate. (For booking Call 0734-2550683 / 2550685), after having quick lunch we have places for local sightseeing, for that, we parked our car on a side and hire an auto (fare Rs.350) as it was the fastest way to see all places in time.

Our first halt is Bhartruhari Caves, Bhartrihari caves are located around 5 km away from Ujjain, on the banks of the Kshipra river. Raja Bhartrihari, a stepbrother of Vikramaditya, was once a king of Ujjain. He renounced his kingdom and all worldly pleasures to live a secluded hermit life after being cheated on by his wife, Pingala. There are two main caves with deceptively narrow entrances. Once inside, tourists are amazed to see what could qualify as a veritable palace. Bhartrihari meditated inside this cave for 12 tough years.

Our next stop is Gad Kalika Temple, Gadkalika Mandir a famous Hindu temple in the city of Ujjain, The temple is near village Gad, so this temple got the name of Gadkalika, Gadkalika is supposed to have been worshipped by Kalidasa. It is said that Kalidasa was an uneducated person and it was due to his dedication to Goddess Kalika that he earned her blessings and also acquired unparalleled literary skills.

after that, we reach Kal Bhairav Temple, Kal Bhairav is the guardian deity of Ujjain, Outside the temple, vendors sell baskets of offerings, containing coconuts, flowers, and a bottle of liquor, Every day, hundreds of devotees offer liquor to the deity, The devotee's hand over the liquor bottles to the priest, who pours the liquor in a saucer, then he tilts the plate a bit, and the liquor starts disappearing, the deity miraculously swallows the liquor offered to him & about one-third of the bottle is returned to the devotee as Prasad.

After experiencing this miracle we started further for Siddhavat, The Siddhavat is an ancient banyan tree on the banks of the Shipra, It's one of the four ancient vat (vat = banyan) in India. (Akshyavat in Prayag and Gaya, the Vanshivat of Vrindavan, and the Panchavati of Nashik) It's believed that Parvati has planted this tree here & Kartikay killed Tarkasur here only. The bathing ghat is also built here call Siddhaghat.

Our Next halt is Mangalnath Temple, which is the birthplace of Mars. The temple is situated at the place where the first meridian of longitude passes through the earth, People who are supposed to have a ‘Mangal dosh’ come here routinely to conduct a Mangal Shanti pooja, Mangalnath is also situated on the bank of the Kshipra river.

The next stop is Sandipani Ashram, This place has a great mythological value. It is believed that this is the ashram where Guru Sandipani used to teach Shree Krishna, Balram & Sudama. The stepped water Kunda (tank) is also situated near the Sandipani Ashram. this ashram has been transformed into a temple now.
Now we came to the Ghat area of Ujjain, Ram Ghat is a place near Harsiddhi Mata temple on the banks of the Kshipra river where the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. More than two crore people visit the Kumbh. The three sacred baths are taken place on this ghat. Among the many temples situated on this ghat.

Next, we visited the Harsiddhi Mata temple, It is one of the 51 major Shaktipeeths of India. Her elbow fell here. The main deity, Harsiddhi Mata, is painted in dark vermillion color with idols of Mahasaraswati and Mahalakshmi beside it. there are two towering deep stambhs that are lit up in the evening, so we visited here in the evening again to wetness this marvelous event.
